Size
- Male: 0.59-0.67 mm.
- Female: 0.61-0.96 mm.
Distinguishing characteristics
- Readily identified by reddish colour concentrated at anterior region of the head and at the cuticle edges of metasome, urosome and appendages. Colour can persist after several years in formalin.
- Oval shaped prosome.
- Nauplius eye present.
Female
- Eggs carried in paired sacs (image 4).
Distribution
- Inshore, coastal and oceanic (Nyan Taw 1978).
- Northern New Zealand to sub-Antarctic (Farran 1929), south-eastern Australian waters (Dakin and Colefax 1933, 1940), off and inside the Great Barrier Reef (Farran 1936).
