Size
  • Male: 0.59-0.67 mm.
  • Female: 0.61-0.96 mm.
Distinguishing characteristics
  • Readily identified by reddish colour concentrated at anterior region of the head and at the cuticle edges of metasome, urosome and appendages. Colour can persist after several years in formalin.
  • Oval shaped prosome.
  • Nauplius eye present.
Female
  • Eggs carried in paired sacs (image 4).
Distribution
  • Inshore, coastal and oceanic (Nyan Taw 1978).
  • Northern New Zealand to sub-Antarctic (Farran 1929), south-eastern Australian waters (Dakin and Colefax 1933, 1940), off and inside the Great Barrier Reef (Farran 1936).
Ecology
  • Little is known.
