Size
  • The umbrella can be up to 72 mm wide but is usually much smaller.
Distinguishing characteristics
  • Notable for having only two long and conspicuous tentacles.
  • It has 8 stomach pouches (O’Sullivan 1982a).
  • Solmundella bitentaculata has a circum-polar distribution in the Southern Ocean, occurring everywhere between the surface and about 1000 m (O’Sullivan 1982a). It has been recorded from waters off N.S.W. and Tasmania.
