  • Approximately 1 mm long.
Distinguishing characteristics
  • Body with obvious constriction (cervical sinus).
  • Only 4 thoracic appendages.
  • Males typically have a larger head and compound eye relative to the body than seen in the female.
  • Head and carapace are clearly separated by a constriction or groove, the cervical sinus.
Distribution
  • Widely distributed throughout the world.
  • Common in coastal waters and can also be found in open ocean systems.
